One of the Best Las Vegas Buffets! Very Detailed and Honest Review on the Rio's Carnival Buffet

!±8± One of the Best Las Vegas Buffets! Very Detailed and Honest Review on the Rio's Carnival Buffet

This great food establishment is not only a locals' favorite, but also a favorite of ours! We go there every time we are in 'sin-city', without fail!

First of all, you will love the vastness of the place; every station is wide, modern, every dish is well displayed. Between the pizza station on the very left and the above-average, varied salad station (with healthy dressings too such as the precious olive oil and balsamic vinegar!) at the very right, you will have to walk some distance but it's well worth it. Variety is the name of this great food establishment; the quality is also very good.

Another great advantage is that it is rare that you have to line up for long. They have a self-check in system (if you pay by credit card and are not redeeming any coupons) which definitely speeds up the process; so far it's the only great food establishment with this system, and we welcome it! Of course, on weekends there is going to be a lineup wherever you go, and this buffet will be no exception. Only it won't be as long and as slow as at the 'Paris Resort' or as at Planet Hollywood, both on the Strip.

Because there is practically everything you may wish to eat at this lovely, huge, great place, you are well advised to sample each station and go for more only when you have sampled everything! We always start with the salad section, then we indulge in the absolutely divine made-to-order warm (or cold) sandwich section which also features ready-made delights such as the delicious Reuben sandwich (not available for dinner): its quality is the same as what you would be served at a top restaurant.

You will also find an abundance of soups, scattered in various stations, including the salad station (you will find several soups here, from chilly-based soups to seafood chowders - the latter is found, at times, by the deep-fried seafood section). Besides its delicious sandwich section (which includes the Reuben), another unique feature of this great food establishment is the made-to-order Thai and Chinese soups: the Thai options include a delicious Tom-Yum base soup (you can make it a vegetarian or a seafood one and choose the noodles you prefer) and several, tasty Chinese soups.

The Japanese section, besides an average offering of Sushi (if you are into Sushi you must go to the Today Sushi Buffet (at Planet Hollywood, see more on these alternatives further on) offers made-to-order stir-fry options and a teppanyaki grill.

Meat lovers will enjoy a Brazilian mixed grill, hot-dogs, burgers, fries and so forth, together with the ubiquitous carving station and other meat favorites.

Fish lovers will enjoy a variety of options, from stews to fish cooked in a variety of sauces to fish and chips and several deep-fried options. We always feast on the deep-fried calamari. They are very nice here.

A semi-made-to-order pasta section (where you can choose between a set number of pastas and sauces) nears the pizza section and, in between, a few antipasto favorites with delicacies such as olives, Greek salad and artichokes.

Like the majority of great food establishments, breakfasts offers delicious, made-to-order omelettes (remember to ask for any option you may fancy besides what they show on the station - we always bring some smoked salmon from a nearby section and ask the cook to prepare an omelette with it and some soft cheese).

The dessert section is great. It's large and varied and, besides anything that any other buffet offers and many, many more options, you will also enjoy some specialities such as the lava cake: this is prepared for you there and then if you have a coupon for it (given to resort guests or to visitors taking the free shuttle from the Strip, departing from Bill's Gambling Hall, on the side exit facing the Bally's). It's divine and, if you are a chocolate lover, you will absolutely adore this dish: it's a mix of chocolate ice-cream, chocolate cake and chocolate sauce, all prepared in front of you and heated up (hence the name 'lava'). If you are given a coupon for it and you love chocolate, leave space for this delight: you will be asking for more!

Gordy's Hi-Hat Restaurant in Cloquet, MN

!±8± Gordy's Hi-Hat Restaurant in Cloquet, MN

Gordy's Hi-Hat Restaurant in Cloquet, MN is famous for its delicious burgers, served in a space reminiscent of the 50's. Folks come from miles away to enjoy their homemade burgers along with some of the best fries and onion rings available anywhere. These are not premade burgers. The are cooked after you order it, and comes off the grill hot, juicy, and piled high with whatever you'd like to top it off with. If burgers aren't your think, they also feature delicious fish sandwiches and chicken sandwiches that are every bit as good as the burgers. And for dessert, the shakes and malts are homemade from real ice cream.

Gordy's looks like an old '50's drive-in, except that there are no drive-in lanes. All ordering is done inside, and although the space is large, it's often difficult to find an open table. When the weather is nice, there are tables set up on the deck outside the building, and eating your meal in the fresh air of the outdoors is nearly impossible to beat! There is often a line out the door of folks waiting to order, and once you have ordered it pays to start watching for a table to open up. Grab it as soon as you can. You can sit and wait for your order to be ready, and then have a place to sit while you eat.

Gordy's is located on Hwy 33, about 2 miles north of Interstate 35. It's a fairly quick 1/2 hour drive from Duluth, MN, or less than 2 hours from the Minneapolis - St. Paul area. It's definitely worth the drive from either location.

Gordy's is closed during the winter months, and generally opens for the summer sometime in April or May, and closes down for the winter in September. If you come during the off-season, Gordy's Warming House, located right next door, is open year round. The Warming House offers terrific coffee and hot chocolate on a cold winter day, as well as sandwiches, ice cream, and other similar items.

But you don't have to take my word for it. Gordy's was recently featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, where the host seemed to love Gordy's! He knows that it's very hard to beat a hot, juicy, fresh, delicious burger, with all your favorite toppings, a side of onion rings, and a large shake for dessert. I recommend that you make a point of stopping at Gordy's Hi-Hat in Cloquet, MN. You won't be disappointed!

Recipes For Iced Coffee, Frappuccinos and More!

!±8± Recipes For Iced Coffee, Frappuccinos and More!

I love everything coffee: hot coffee, iced coffee, coffee ice cream, coffee-flavored candy. The only thing I do not like about coffee is how much they are charging now-a-days for a cup! You can easily pay up to .00 for a specialty coffee. I know. I have done it and will likely do it again and again and again. Why? Because I LOVE coffee.

Luckily I work from home and make my own coffee 95% of the time. I am very picky about the coffee that I buy. I tend to stick with Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts-brand coffee when they go on sale and I have coupons. I am so glad that I do not work out of the home because I know that I would be among those that go through the drive-through for my cup of coffee just about every day. I just know it!

I just ran across a couple of facts regarding those who do go through the drive-through often:

1. People who buy coffee primarily at drive through windows on their way to work will spend as much as 45 hours a year waiting in line.

2. The average person who buys coffee outside the office to consume at work will spend the equivalent value of a round trip plane ticket to Florida every year.

WOW! Can you believe that? Thank God I make my coffee at home! I can drink coffee all day every day. However, when it is 100 degrees outside, a HOT cup of coffee just does not sound appealing to me; therefore, I decided to look up a few Summer coffee recipes since going to Starbucks everyday is definitely not an option for me. I do not have the time nor the money to spend going through a drive-through to get a good cup of coffee! Besides, I want to be in control of what I put in my coffee since I am trying to cut back on my calories. Have you looked up the calories contained in some of those drinks?

Note: You can purchase all of the specialty syrups used in Starbucks drinks at any Starbucks store! You can also go online and order DaVinci Gourmet Syrup at only .99 a bottle. DaVinci syrups have no calories and they are sugar free! I have searched several stores on several occasions for DaVinci syrup, but have not had any luck. Your luck might be better than mine, but, if not, you can go online. Some of the following are copycat recipes from one of your favorite coffee stores!

Iced Coffee:

1. Start with a rich flavorful coffee.

2. You can make your coffee in advance or let it cool, although I find that just filling my glass up with ice and pouring the hot coffee over it works just fine!

3. Add cream and sugar or a sugar substitute. You can also try adding a little syrup. We even tried sugar free pancake syrup because we ran out of sweetener and it tasted great!

Coffee Popsicles:

Mix your coffee how you like it and just freeze. You can use a Popsicle mold or ice cube tray. You can even put these ice cubes in your iced coffee!

Caramel Macchiato:

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons Vanilla Syrup
1/2 cup fresh brewed Espresso (You will have to have an Expresso machine.)
8 ounces steamed milk (You actually do not need an Expresso machine to make steamed milk. See how to steam milk here!)
3 to 4 tablespoons Caramel Sauce or Caramel Syrup

Instructions
Add vanilla syrup to 16 oz glass.
Add steamed milk and caramel sauce/syrup and stir well.

Coffee Frappe:
Ingredients:
18 -22 Ice cubes, crushed
7 ounces Double-strength coffee, chilled
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons flavored syrup of choice (vanilla, hazelnut, raspberry or other)

Whipped cream

Java Chip Frappuccino:
Ingredients:
4 tablespoon chocolate syrup
4 tablespoon chocolate chips (you can substitute sugar free chocolate cut up into pieces)
4 cups double-strength freshly brewed dark roast coffee
Chopped or crushed ice
Whipped cream (optional)
Chocolate syrup (for drizzle, optional)

Fill blender half full with chopped or crushed ice. Add all ingredients (except whipped cream) and blend until thick and still icy. Pour into 4 tall glasses, top with whipping cream and drizzle chocolate over the whipped cream.

Mocha Frappe:
Instructions:
Fill blender half full with chopped or crushed ice. Add all ingredients (except whipped cream) and blend until thick and still icy. Pour into 4 tall glasses, top with whipping cream and drizzle chocolate over the whipped cream.

Instructions
Place the ice, coffee, sugar and syrup in a blender. Blend until the frappe is smooth. Pour into a large, tall glass. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream.

Java Float:
Ingredients:
4 tablespoon chocolate syrup
1 tablespoon chocolate chips (substitute sugar free chocolate as above)
2 cups club soda or sparkling water, chilled
4 scoops coffee ice cream (look for sugar free or low carb ice cream)

Instructions

In each of 2 tall glasses, stir together 2 Tbsp. of chocolate syrup and 1 cup club soda. Place 2 scoops of ice cream in each glass and serve immediately.

Enjoy your cup of coffee this Summer while saving time and money!

Why Sizzling Hot Prospects Suddenly Go Stone Cold - And What to Do About It!

!±8± Why Sizzling Hot Prospects Suddenly Go Stone Cold - And What to Do About It!

It happens all the time...

You get a call or email from a prospect. They sound interested, and interesting. You chat. It goes swimmingly...Perhaps so much so that you're already mentally shifting your calendar to fit them in.

Then, suddenly, they start giving you the cold shoulder. Or come up with some lame-sounding excuse for why they can't move forward just yet (these usually arrive via email).

You go from excited about this hot knew prospect, to slightly deflated, a little frustrated, or possibly even incredibly worried about where your next client is going to come from now.

Maybe a touch of self doubt even starts to creep in. Thoughts like, "What's wrong with me and my services?", "They seemed so excited to get started...What happened?" tend to follow.

Well, I can't answer the first one for you, but I can tell you exactly what's happened in 99% of these instances...

Life happened!

Yep. You read right. Life got in the way of you working with that top-notch, seemingly red-hot and raring to go prospect.

Here's the deal. Most people are going to call because they have a problem they believe you can help them solve. And right that second, their problem is a biggie. It's top of mind and top of the to-do list.

So they make calls, interview service providers, and start deciding who to hire. Then, something happens...Literally.

And that something suddenly makes the problem they called you about WAY less of a priority. Now, because they have other, more pressing issues to deal with, you've been placed on the back-burner.

Depending on how pressing their original problem really was, they may become hot for your services again in a few days or weeks. But there's a good chance more things are going to come up that take priority. So you could be on the back burner until that red hot prospect turns icy cold.

Thankfully, that doesn't mean they won't warm up again. It's just that you might not still be top-of-mind when they do.

What should you do in the meantime?

First, keep in mind that no matter how disappointed you are, or how much you need the money, it's your job be the consummate professional when they decide to postpone hiring you.

Then, even more importantly, it's your job to stay in front of them until they are ready to move forward again-without coming across like a pushy salesperson or pest.

How? Here's a short list of inexpensive steps to take to stay top-of-mind for the long haul...

1) Collect their contact info (at least email, ideally physical address and phone number too) so you have a way to stay in touch
2) Keep a copy of your notes regarding their business and needs. That way you can reference details down the road.
3) Immediately send a thank you card after you chat. They took the time to find and call you. The least you can do is let them know you appreciate their efforts.
4) Ask if you can put them on your newsletter list. This could be email or snail mail. Doesn't matter. Just be sure your newsletters offer valuable information, not just sales pitches or coupons.
5) Follow up periodically with information that may be of interest to them. If you write or run across an article you think might be helpful, pop it in an envelope and send it to them.
6) Send birthday and holiday cards. Don't just do this for your clients, do it for prospects too so they know you are thinking of them.
7) Be a great resource. If they keep getting valuable info from you, they'll want to keep hearing from you. That's good for everyone involved.

Keep it up and before you know it, the problem that originally brought them to you is likely to rise back up to the top of their priority list. When it does, those icy prospects will get all hot and bothered again. And who do you think they'll call...?
